Sisters and Sweet Dreams

I promise not every Monday will be a playlist. But this Monday is going to be, 'cause this weekend was crazy-go-nuts and not a bit of it had anything to do with Texas music.

So, Michael and I are getting awfully close to having a little boy this summer! Turns out kids need their own rooms sometimes. I had a baby shower this weekend - do you know how much STUFF babies have?! Goodness. We're thinking about giving him the master bedroom.

But for the moment the plan is to convert one of the guest rooms into a nursery, and since this is our first baby, Auntie Brandi is actually in said guest room at this very moment painting it for us! I'm gonna help, but not before I put together the perfect painting playlist for us.

What I've put together so far looks like this:

That seems like a pretty random playlist, I know. But there's logic. I mean, as much logic as there is behind anything that we do.

So numero uno: Constant Sorrows. That's 'cause our life has been hard, and we just really identify with these lyrics.

Just kidding. We like O Brother Where Art Thou. That movie is years old now and we can still barely get through a day without quoting it.

No. 2: Guy Clark had to be on there in some shape or form. He's a staple at our house.

Thirdly: Kacey Musgraves. She's from East Texas and so are we. That means we are probably cousins somewhere down the line twice removed on our momma's daddy's brother's side. Plus we listened to this on the way to the Double Dave's buffet earlier where we ate almost exclusively dessert pizza.

Four! There's Your Trouble! Brandi sang this at karaoke once. She loves to be reminded of that. I didn't sing anything...not a blessed note...

Fifth (Is there a second 'f' in there? Doesn't look right.): Brandi lives in Houston. One of the many ways to get there is to go through La Grange. Because of this song, anytime you mention La Grange, Brandi says "eh heh heh heh."

Moving on to number six: Girls Like Us. Pretty sure this song was written about the Dean girls. Right, Annies?

777: So I guess a song from the Nashville soundtrack is kind-of the exact opposite of Texas Music, but there's no help for it! We love it! And I picked the sister duet because I think that a day or two spent painting together is as good a time as any to polish our own act. Move over Rankin Twins! (Don't worry, I bought the low VOC paint.)

But wait! There's MORE! If you act now, we'll send you a bonus playlist at absolutely no charge!

And by "act now," I mean scroll down.

So while I was searching Spotify for the painting songs, I randomly came across these lullaby versions of country songs:

It just made me laugh, and it felt selfish to keep it to myself. Because who doesn't want to send their little one off to dream land with sweet tunes like "Whiskey River" and "Folsom Prison Blues."

You're welcome.

Okay, I'm actually gonna go help now. Not that the playlist isn't helpful! I feel like it was an excellent use of my time.
