That may be an exaggeration, but it certainly seemed true as I walked to the very far end of a gravel-turned-mud pit parking lot at Papa Woody's with my new (to me) camera wrapped in plastic take out bags and my (actually) new boots sinking ankle deep in the rivers I had to jump to get back to my car. Actually I wasn't entirely sure my little Toyota was going to make it out of that parking lot!
But we did make it safely back to my dry house, got the mud cleaned out and off of everything and edited some photos. That night gave me photos like this:
These photos of Cory Morrow and his band are still some of my favorites. I think it's partly because I was really nervous about getting good shots that night, and I was so pleasantly surprised with them! At that point I barely knew the KOKE folks at the show, I was still getting used to my camera, there was lightning striking constantly in the sky behind the stage and Cory was super late! But once he finally hit the stage, (first outside on the big stage and then inside once the monsoon moved in) he and his band were having so much fun that I just kind-of forgot the nerves.
So this week, when they played at the KOKE Free Music Series, I knew there was no reason to be nervous! Cory still goes barefoot on the stage.
See?
He still has so much fun with his band!
He's still leading the crowd in sing alongs.
And he still jumps around like he's sponsored by Red Bull or something.
A couple of things have changed. New drummer for one thing.
And he was wearing longer sleeves last summer so I can't be sure they didn't already look like this, but good lord, Cory! How many hours of guitar do you have to play to get the Popeye forearms? Geez, where are your anchor tattoos?
But he does still have the awesome songs that the crowd still knows all the words to. And he's still one of my favorites!
Thanks for being there, y'all!
