Mama Tried to Raise You Better...

...but you still put off Mother's Day shopping till this week, didn't you?! And after all she's done for you!

Don't sweat it. It's not hard to find something awesome for your awesome mama in Austin these days. And because I love y'all, I did a little scouting for you this weekend.

These stores are some of the ones that I always hit when looking for gifts. One of them is bound to have something you can surprise and delight Mom with!

1. Adelante
    1206 W. 38th Street (26 Doors Shopping Center)

So Adelante is a bright, airy shop that you might hit if you are a husband looking for something for a new-ish mom. The look is definitely young and fresh.

What you'll find:

*Beautifully made, unique clothes that can't be found all around Austin. I want all of those things up above! But alas, I am a mama-to-be and my 6 month pregnant belly would be peeking out from under that shirt in the middle. I'm not sure Austin's ready for that!

*Jewelry to go with all those great clothes! This is one of my favorite places to shop for jewelry. And bonus! Most of the designers are from Texas, and several are from right here in Austin. The Local loves that!

*Moms love bags. They've got snacks and toys and extra pants to stash after all. They might as well stash them in something beautiful!

*They do also have some other little gifty items - and some not so little, like the custom-upholstered chair on the left. They use pieces like this for display throughout the store and most of them are also for sale.

2. Breed & Co.
3663 Bee Cave Rd. -or- 718 W. 29th Street

Breed & Co. is a great place to shop if you just don't know what your mom might like. They have a ton of options, so this one actually might be a good place for a gift card if your mom likes to shop for herself.

Some of the things she can choose from are:

 * Beautiful/cute/witty housewares. They've got classy china, clever wineglasses and cutting boards and mugs with Austin scenes printed on them. I also love the Rifle & Co. notepads in the bottom right corner. There are a couple other places in town to find these, but this is one of the few.

*Adorable and/or UT accessories. I didn't go to UT, but I know a lot of your mamas did or they love that you did. They've got a lot of options for you on that front.

*Fun stuff to cook with and tasty things to eat! I flipped through the Sweet on Texas cookbook. You should buy her that in hopes that she'll bake you things from it! Also, I like flowers, but (in case my husband is reading) I am of the opinion that chocolates are even better!

*Not all mamas want pretty bags and jewelry. Some want something a little more practical for Mother's Day, and Breed & Co. has you covered there, too. Just because she asked for a coffee maker doesn't mean you can't still spoil her with a fancy, shiny one!

*Breed & Co. is also unique on our list in that it has a gardening section. Moms can choose from gardening tools, pretty flower pots, flowers to put in those pots or any kind of bird feeder they can possibly imagine. (That's what's in the top right corner there.) Seriously, I didn't know so many kinds of bird feeders existed.

3. Viva Day Spa
215 S. Lamar Blvd. -or- 1811 W. 35th Street

Ahhh - relaxation! With a Viva gift certificate you can give Mama an hour (or two!) of peace and quiet. Viva's services range from manicures and pedicures to facials to massages. (They even have prenatal massages for moms-to-be. (Been there, done that...am probably gonna do it again! It's good y'all!)

*Mother's Day specials make it easy to pick out a treat for Mama.

*Viva also carries a few really nice product lines.

4. Tarrytown Pharmacy
2727 Exposition Blvd.

Okay, I know I've thrown a lot of pictures of pretty things at you, but I think this last shop is worth a few more!

They've got:

 *More jewelry and:

*More bags! But these are different bags and different jewelry! The aesthetic here is more preppy than what you might find at Adelante. Probably a little more traditional too - these items will appeal to older moms, too.

*I was not expecting so many cute sundresses to show up in a pharmacy. (Yes, they actually have a pharmacy in the store. It's not just a cute name.) If your mom is lucky enough to look good in hats. They also have a bunch of those.

*Some really cute stationary! It speaks for itself. Just look at that Kate Spade sealed with a kiss design!

*Picture frames and candles and trinkets! (Oh my!) The picture of the Eiffel Tower in the bottom there is not just a picture - it's a corkboard! And you know you want to buy your mom the pink flask up at the top. This is especially appropriate if you were the kind of child that might have driven your mom to drinkin' a few times here and there.

5. Jenni Roberts Photography

I can't help throwing this option out there! Mamas love pictures of their babies, and with all the cute picture frames available at the shops I've mentioned here, don't you think she needs something to fill those up with?

Your one-hour portrait session can take place at your home or anywhere in town and can be scheduled for this summer or up to six months in advance. We can include the whole family or just the kids if getting everybody ready is just too big a job!

6. Any tattoo parlor in town

If you really want to show your mom how much you love her, put it on your arm forever and ever!

*Alternatively, you can just put a tattoo on a tea towel. (Breed & Co.) I feel like there are fewer ways for that plan to go wrong.

Okay! You've got some great choices and still six whole days before you actually need to present a gift! No excuses! Happy Mother's Day, y'all!

Jenni
