I loves me some Christmastime, y'all. Hot chocolate, and wrapping presents and candlelight services! Christmas trees and Trails of Light!
But let's face it. Austin is not at it's prettiest in December. Everything's brown. It's cold and foggy, and while there are plenty of things to do when it's cold, it's no secret we're known for our outdoor activities!
That's why, when you live in Austin, Texas, THIS is the most wonderful time of the year!
Everything turns green again. Locals and visitors pack the hike and bike trail, and all of a sudden the wait for a patio seat is three times the wait for one in the A/C at any restaurant in Austin.
Now, this weekend was perfect weather for almost anything you can find to do in Austin. It's comfortable outside for shorts, but you're not drenched in sweat the very second you walk out the door. Enjoy that for the next few hours. Hundred degree (and then some!) weather is on its way!
One of the other reasons I love springtime in Austin is that the snow cone stands open up! I'd like to blame this craving on being 6 months pregnant, but I get excited about snow cones every year. There are stands all over Austin, but what you really need to do is track down one of the five Sweet Caroline's locations!
Me and Michael stopped by the one on Slaughter Lane today and had our first New Orleans Style Snowball. This is now my official snow cone stand! I'm almost thirty - should I have an official snow cone stand? Hard to say, but there's no help for it!
I got the First Dance snowball (strawberry, wedding cake and
cream) and Michael got a Ninja Turtle (banana & lime). But I will be
heading back to try the Amazing Grace and the Sweet Caroline. They
should do snowball tastings, like wineries do. (Yes, my palate is that
sophisticated.)
And what would a springtime post be without a bluebonnet shot? There have been years where it was easier to track down a bluebonnet patch, but this spring was at least easier than last!
Ya know what else there is to do outside in Austin? Hear some live music. Like, say, some live music at Central Texas Speedway. Like, say, every Wednesday night throughout the whole spring and summer. Just sayin'...
So what do you do as soon as the sun comes out in Austin? You can leave a comment on The Local by clicking on each post's title and scrolling to the bottom! We'd love to hear from you!
