And We're Off!

Week one down and, what, nineteen more to go? NINETEEN weeks of free shows?! Do you love living in Austin, or what?

So we weren't where we expected to be. Next week we'll get to check out the new stage at Central Texas Speedway, but thank goodness Midnight Rodeo welcomed us all in! I hope y'all got the change of venue memo!

Zane Williams got it all started with his band. I'm pretty sure his whole fitness plan is dancing around the stage. The boy does not sit still, and it makes for a really fun show!

A lot of people came in time to see Aaron Watson, but when you come late like that, you miss stuff.

Awesome stuff, like people playing a fiddle behind their back. Seriously, who can do that? Also, at what point do you discover that you have that talent? Did he just get bored practicing one day? Was there a dare involved? I feel like I need to know this story.

And then there was Aaron Watson. Aaron Watson and band, and his big 'ol hat and all those great songs we love so much! (Well, he did play Hey Y'all, but he apologized!)

Every time I see this photo, I get "Raise Your Bottle" stuck in my head. I don't usually remember what song someone was playing in which photo, but I do on this one. He didn't have a bottle to raise, so he raised his guitar for the chorus.

If one day you find yourself at another Aaron Watson concert, get up close to the front, and make sure he can see you have a camera! The whole band will cheese for you, but Aaron might be the biggest cheese of all. The girls next to me just about fainted when they pointed their iPhones up at him and he leaned down about two feet away to make sure they got their shot!

I include the next photo for all the single ladies. If I could get Aaron's approval, I feel like I could sell this photo to whatever company made those jeans! Girls, you're welcome. I'm okay with you setting it as your desktop background, but he did mention that all those love songs we're crazy for are about his very lovely wife, so let your conscience be your guide.

I risked my life for this last shot! The ladder I had to climb to get this angle was something like a hundred feet tall! (And by a hundred, I mean twelve-ish.) I may have had a little help. Thank you, Security Guy, whose name I was rude enough not to inquire about, for carrying my camera and not laughing at how freaked out I was.

Next week: The Departed and Quaker City Night Hawks! Get there early! Maybe the drummer will play upside down or something.
