My mom makes homemade, handcut fries sometimes. They're awesome. But she lives in East Texas, and I'm not very good at replicating them.
The only little restaurant I ever waited tables at also made handcut fries. They had a cool little machine mounted on the wall for cutting up potatoes. It was a historic hotel. I'm sure it's the same machine they'd been using to cut fries since the fifties.
Unfortunately, it's also in East Texas, and here I am in Central Texas, jonesin' for some real fries. What's a girl to do?
Turns out a girl's just gotta take herself down to P.Terry's!
They hand cut their fries just like the little hotel I waited tables at does! Although, I assume that if they're using the same kind of machine that they have more than one of them. 'Cause they cut a lot of these fries during the day! Their drive-through line is pretty long during lunch and dinner, but it's not too bad in between, and that's when you want a little snack anyway!
Drive through and get fries and a shake. (Vanilla is what I picked for the above photo, but the chocolate is delicious, too!) The lemonade's good, too, if you don't want icecream. Ooh - or they have Maine Root sodas, which are not only tasty, but also happen to be Fair Trade Certified. (and organic and gluten free and stuff if that's something you look for!)
So let's make it official - The Local's vote for best snack in Austin is fries and a milkshake from P. Terry's! Y'all hit up the drive-through and let me know if you agree!

Well, you talked me into it. Those fries look awesome! And I might even break my diet for a shake ... I'm going to have to stop reading this blog. Too many yummy temptations on it.
ReplyDeleteThe fries really are good but I like their double cheeseburger to go with them.
ReplyDeleteThe eggburger with sausage is good too.
Good food at reasonable prices.... No wonder this place has a steady flow of customers throughout the day.
