The Local: Sound Checks & Turnpikes & Crooks, OH MY!

Oooooooh was Friday a FUN time or WHAT? Oh wait - this is Diana again - guest blogging for Jenni whose sweet self is crazy busy this Memorial Day weekend, so I'm filling in! Anyway - if you didn't get to Stubb's on Friday night, then I can't speak for you - but for those of us lucky enough to be there - it was most DEFINITELY a fun time!!! A few lucky ducks got to go early to the KOKE FM Sound Check Party and eat Stubb's BBQ, watch the TURNPIKE TROUBADOURS (♥) do their sound check and meet the band afterwards (PLUS they sang 3 songs for us...woot woot!) Then we had a bit of a panic when it monsooned for several hours and we were all desperately afraid the show would be cancelled....oh the heartbreak! the tears! Thankfully the rain moved out and Stubb's was PACKED!

Slaid Cleaves opened at 8pm (he was awesome, as always - what would we do without him??)

He was followed by CROOKS... a local Austin band I had never heard of. HOW I had never heard of them is BEYOND me - good gosh - they were TONS of fun! A little hillbilly, a little rock & roll, a lot of country - throw in some horns & a very entertaining stand-up bass player + an accordion player who spins around in circles and you've got a crazy-talented, very AUSTIN band!!!
